    Summary: 
    Alexander Wetmore, noted ornithologist and sixth Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, 1944-1952, is seen here standing in the doorway of his work quarters at Hacienda Linda Vista in Riacho Pilaga, Argentina, on August 16, 1920. He was conducting field work for the U. S. Bureau of Biological Survey. The walls of the quarters are thatched; however, the roof is not visible. Several dead birds are hanging upside down on the side of the doorway. Wetmore is holding a dead bird in each hand. Secretary Wetmore conducted extensive field work throughout the islands of the Caribbean and many Latin American countries.
