    Summary: 
    Watson M. Perrygo (1906-1984), taxidermist, and Alexander Wetmore (1886-1978), ornithologist and, at the time, Assistant Secretary in charge of the United States National Museum, in the field collecting birds at Stumpy Point, North Carolina. This image was known by the Smithsonian staff as the "Mutt & Jeff" photo because of their height disparity. The pair were close friends for many years and made annual field trips to collect birds in North and South America. Wetmore was the sixth Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution from 1944-1952.
