Picture Gallery, U.S. National Museum   Catalog:  Historic Images of the Smithsonian Title:  Picture Gallery, U.S. National Museum Date:  1906 Author/Creator:  Unknown Contained In:  Smithsonian Institution Archives, Record Unit 311, Box 28, Folder 8 Summary:  "A corner of the Picture Gallery in the Old United States National Museum Building [now the Arts and Industries Building], November, 1906, before it had been entirely remodeled, showing a part of the Harriet Lane Johnston Collection, William Henry Holmes, September 28, 1920." Image shows paintings on the wall and sculpture on pedestals. At this time, the Smithsonian's art collection was designated the National Gallery of Art, now the National Museum of American Art. Notes:  See United State National Museum Bulletin 70, 1916, page 22. This print was made from a glass plate negative that has a crack through the middle of it.
